Focus on Academics
QSI Virtual School (QVS) follows the mastery learning model of education. QVS promotes academic rigor and academic success. We believe that every student has the potential to demonstrate mastery of all essential learning outcomes (standards). Demonstration of mastery may take longer for some students than for others. We recognize that different students learn at different pace.
QVS students "compete" against mastery benchmarks, not against each other. QVS teachers serve as guides and mentors who train students with individual attention and care.
Students earn course credit unit by unit. Each unit carries equal credit weight, 0.1 cr. A unit of study is marked as completed only when a student demonstrates mastery of all essential unit outcomes or TSWs (The Student Will).
Most students complete a 1.0 credit course in one academic year, but some QVS students take longer than one year to complete a QVS course, some students take less than a year.
Demonstration of mastery of all essential course outcomes is required to earn full course credit.
QVS students develop a high level of proficiency (knowledge, skills, and competencies) in the curriculum that they are studying.
