QSI offers over 20 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. These internationally recognized advanced courses are equivalent to first-year university courses and are intended for students who possess proven ability, interest, and motivation to handle the extra workload and study requirements. All QVS AP® courses are audited and approved by the College Board. All QVS AP teachers have completed College Board training for the AP courses they teach.
Starting in 2021/22 QVS students may earn the AP Capstone Diploma™ from CB. The two AP Capstone courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, will be offered as fully synchronous online courses.
Advanced placement classes can help prepare you for college and beyond.
Challenge Yourself
Advanced Placement classes can challenge students in many ways. They require students to think critically and solve problems. In addition, they often require that students read extensively and learn about different subjects. Finally, AP classes can push students to achieve high scores on exams, which can lead to college credits or a degree.
Get a Head Start
Advanced Placement classes can give students a head start in their studies at the collegiate level. By taking AP classes in high school, students can improve their chances of getting into college and receive college credit for the classes they have taken. Additionally, by taking AP classes in college, students can further improve their chances of getting into a top-tier university.
Stand Out from Your Peers
Advanced Placement classes can help students stand out from their peers. By taking AP classes and performing well on the exams, students can demonstrate their academic ability and show that they are interested in pursuing a higher education.
Explore Your Passions
Advanced Placement (AP) classes can help students explore their passions. AP classes are available in a variety of subjects, so whether you're interested in humanities, science, or math, there's probably an AP class that's right for you. At QVS, we offer over 20 different AP courses in a variety of subject areas!
Strengthen College Applications
Advanced Placement (AP) classes can give high school students a leg up on the college application process. By taking AP classes, students can demonstrate their mastery of college-level material, which can help them stand out from the crowd. Additionally, by taking AP classes in subjects that are relevant to their desired majors, students can show that they have a strong interest in pursuing a particular field of study.
Give Yourself an Edge in College
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are high-quality, college-level classes that give students an advantage when applying to college. Many colleges award credits and/or advanced standing to students who have completed AP exams. Whether you're looking to score better on exams or develop specific skills for your future career, AP classes can provide a significant edge.
AP students are expected to spend a minimum of 90 minutes per school day (or weekly equivalent) per AP course. Students who can’t meet this expectation are encouraged not to enroll into an AP course due to increased risk of poor performance.
Students enrolled in AP classes are expected to complete the corresponding College Board external exams in May. These exams are scored on a 1-5 scale. Depending on the institution, scores of 4 or 5 can result in a college or university awarding credit, exemption from courses, or advanced standing. Many European and UK universities also use AP exam scores to meet entrance requirements. Students should research individual universities to understand their policies regarding admissions criteria and potential awarding of credit for AP courses. Students considering AP courses should seek advice from parents, the course teacher, current students enrolled in the AP course(s) of interest, and their school counselor or academic advisor prior to enrollment. Please note that there is a fee for each AP exam that is paid for by the student.
Beginning in the fall of 2021, QVS began offering the Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma™ courses (AP Seminar and AP Research) to interested students. This prestigious program challenges students to further deepen their research, academic writing, and public speaking skills.
To earn an Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma, AP requires students to take six AP courses: AP Seminar, AP Research, and four other AP courses of their choosing.
To graduate with the QSI Academic Diploma with Honors, students are required to successfully complete two AP courses, along with all the academic diploma requirements.
